I’ve never kept a diary. Every year I buy a notebook with the intention of jotting down my daily observations and most prominent thoughts. But it never really gets going and they only ever end up being half-filled with scrawls of books I should read, films I should watch and music I should listen to. Then it’s relegated to a dusty space on my shelf and substituted with a fresh, hopeful and more promising notebook that, like those before it, has the joyless task of being carried around by me and denied the very words that it was initially brought for.
I’m going to stop wasting money on notebooks.
